What is "shipping" to you?

Somebody explain to me the difference between shipping characters, and supporting two characters in a relationship.
From what I can tell, “shipping” is mostly for fun and games - and it’s just an added bonus if it’s canon.
Supporting is well…supporting a canon relationship. You like seeing it happen, therefore…support happens.

And the wording on Ausiello’s article…lol He, along with Kristin Dos Santos, are basically PR managers for Glee and Ryan Murphy. It seems like they’re almost on their payroll. Heeeee.
